Action on (the square) line
A Mental Health Advocacy Day
Due to the recent safer at home order, we have decided to move action on the square to an online format. There is no cost, but please register to receive additional information, reminders, and to help us keep track of who has participated.
Action on the Square is an advocacy day to spread awareness about mental health, learn about current legislative issues, and tell your elected officials what people affected by mental illness need to thrive!
Action on the Square Goals:
- Learn about current mental health issues
- Hear stories of hope and inspiration
- Tell your legislators what you need to be successful in recovery
- Learn how to turn your story of mental illness into a successful advocacy tool
Who Can Attend?
Anyone who cares deeply about mental health can take part in Action on
the Square -line! No previous advocacy experiences are required. Everyone will be given the knowledge, tools, and support to successfully meet with your legislators.
What Happens During the Event?
Part One: Inspiring Stories Shared on Social Media. Over the course of the week, we will share stories of recovery and hope on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Make sure to follow or like all our pages! The stories will be from the point of view of peers, family members, and mental health professionals.
Part Two: Learn about Current Mental Health Issues. An online presentation will be available to learn about current issues in the state legislature related to mental health from our Public Policy & Advocacy Director. Receive tips for meeting with legislators, learn how to tell your story, and then listen to a panel discussion from experts in the mental health field followed by a Q & A.
Part Three: Contact your Legislators. Call, email, and tell your elected officials what people affected by mental illness need to thrive. We will provide detailed instructions to help you find your legislators and contact their virtual offices.
What Does It Cost?
There is no cost, but please register to receive additional information and reminders, and to help us keep track of who has participated. If you have already registered, we will issue you a full refund automatically.
